We sometimes face the daunting task of removing bad stains from their carpets. Some go away easily with a bit of scrubbing here and there, while some really stubborn stains are almost impossible to remove. One common household product, hydrogen peroxide, could be the solution to a lot of your carpet stain problems.
Hydrogen peroxide is one product that is versatile, cheap, and effective for home and carpet cleaning. If you still do not have it in your home, hydrogen peroxide or H2O2 can be bought over the counter. It usually comes in a dark-colored bottle and appears as clear liquid that looks like water. Combined with a few more household items, you will be able to create a very effective stain removal mixture for a very cheap cost.
Always do a spot test with a hidden area of the carpet.
To make your stain removal mixture, combine hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing soap in a 2:1 ratio. For stained areas where foaming must be avoided, increase the amount of hydrogen peroxide in the mixture. Dawn dishwashing liquid is most recommended but feel free to use other brands. If you have very sensitive skin, it is advisable that you use gloves when handling the ingredients as it may cause irritation or allergic reactions. Mix both ingredients together and apply it on the stained spot using a clean cloth or towel.
Blot and rub the area and in an instant, the stain will start getting removed. If a part of the stain does not get removed, repeat the process as needed. Soon, your carpet will look as good and as clean as new. Hydrogen peroxide has proven itself as a powerful home and carpet cleaning product. You can even add baking soda to the mixture to help not only in removing the stain but also in removing whatever odors are stuck in the carpet.
This hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing soap mixture works on almost all types of carpet stains. These includes food stains, blood stains, mud stains, and even red wine stains that are known as a tough enemy of commercially available carpet stain removers. It can even be used for removing oil-based paint stains. Ever had dried out stains that you have only come to find out recently? That won’t be a problem with the hydrogen peroxide solution. It does the job very effectively both for new, wet stains and old, dried stains.
The use of this hydrogen peroxide solution is not only limited to carpet stains. You can also use it to effectively remove mattress stains and shirt stains, especially those hard to remove pit stains on your white tops. Also, hydrogen peroxide is known as a bleaching product and might cause discoloration in some carpets. So before using the hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing soap mixture, first test it on a small and unnoticed area of your carpet. Lastly, since hydrogen peroxide is a very powerful substance, make sure to use it in small and non-harmful dosages and take proper precautions when handling it.
