This video, uploaded by the car dealership Valley Motors, is a step-by-step guide on how to thoroughly clean a vehicle’s carpets. This is especially useful for car owners who want to save up on the upkeep. Additionally, the process exhibited here is cheaper because the materials needed are readily available. DIY auto carpet cleaning would also save more money in the long run.
For starters, the demonstrator used heavy duty engine de-greaser which, he stressed, will not ruin car seats or carpets. Please take note before cleaning anything – make sure the substance you are using will not damage the material you are trying to clean. Begin you start, test the cleaner out in a small hidden spot. It would defeat the purpose of the task if you actually ended up causing more damage than what you started with.
The next steps include scrubbing the carpets with warm water and soap, then vacuuming the excess water generated from the previous step, and finally, sopping up any leftover moisture and dirt with a towel. It is to be noted, however, that the vacuum should be a model that can suck with both wet and dry materials like this. Otherwise, the water might cause damage to the vacuum.
Fortunately, a wet vacuum or similar equipment is affordable. A decent consumer-grade model would cost around $100, and you can see a demo here.
By the end of the video, the demonstrator noted that the carpet was cleaner and that the vehicle “looks almost brand-new.”
