Everyone wants their carpets to look their very best, but paying for professional cleaning is costly – that’s where this Bissell model comes in. Many users say they get near professional results consistently at a fraction of the hassle and costs to hire the pros or rent a machine each time.
In this review, we go over how the Bissell Proheat 2X Premier deep carpet cleaner works, it’s cleaning performance and how it compares to other Bissell carpet cleaners in its class.
Bissell Proheat 2x Premier Carpet Cleaner Features & Benefits
10 DirtLifter Powerbrushes
All the advanced cleaning features in the world won’t make any difference unless your carpet cleaner can actually dig deep and remove those stains from the pile of your carpet, and the 10, dual-rotating brushes featured on this model do just that. Another nice aspect of this type of deep-cleaning technology is that it raises the pile in your carpet, making it look and feel several years newer than it actually is.
Surround Suction
You won’t need to worry about damp patches being left on the edge of the carpet you’re cleaning with this handy feature. In fact, not only does it mean that you get true edge-to-edge cleaning with the Bissell 47A23 Proheat 2x Premier, but your carpet will dry much more evenly as a result too. Quick, accurate cleaning with no mess left behind.
Large Capacity Water Tank
The Bissell Proheat 2x Premier 47A23 has two water tank features that set it apart from others. The first is that it can hold up to 1.25 gallons of clean or dirty water. 1.25 gallons of water is larger than the usual 1 gallon tanks that machines in its class of upright home carpet cleaners has. It means fewer trips back and forth to the sink.
The second is that it’s a 2-in-1 tank design, so users only need to handle one tank for filling and emptying. This is a very clever bladder design, so that when you’re using the clean water to remove stains, the clean water bladder becomes smaller. The dirty water can be stored outside the bladder within the tank, without taking up extra space.
Heatwave Technology®
The luxury of a constant supply of warm water is a feature you don’t find on every carpet cleaner, and especially at this price range. Users can fill the tank with hot water (up to 140°F/60°C) and Heatwave technology will act to maintain the water’s warm temperature through the cleaning process. Note that it does not heat up cold water.
There are certain stains which need to be cleaned with warm water, and the Heatwave Technology® featured inside this Bissell carpet cleaner makes short work of even the toughest stains. If you work with really stubborn stains, or a heavily trafficked carpet, you’ll appreciate this feature more than most people. Just make sure that you use cold water on stains with a strong odor – hot water can actually “set” the stain in your carpet, while also making the smell worse.
Useful Accessories
If you need to clean upholstery and stairs with your future carpet cleaner, then you’ll appreciate the hose and 3 inch brush tool supplied with this carpet cleaning machine. These can always be purchased separately, but it will cost extra. For the occasions that you do actually clean your upholstery and stairs, you’ll have all the tools you need.
Cleaning Path
The ProHeat 2X® Premier 47A23 has the same 12-inches of cleaning path as you’d have found featured on earlier models. Combined with the edge-to-edge cleaning functionality of this carpet cleaner it makes it a serious contender as your “go to” household carpet shampooer.
Power Cord
You won’t find yourself running short of power cord with the 22-foot cord featured on this carpet shampooer.
Warranty
The ProHeat 2X® Premier 47A23 comes with a 3-year limited warranty, more than you’d expect for a cleaner in this price range. When one considers that extended warranties are valued at $20 a year, this overall price tag of this machine makes a great deal.
Bissell Proheat 2x Premier Carpet Cleaner 47A23 Review
Deep Cleaning
The 10-row DirtLifter cleaning brushes get as deep into the pile of your carpet as most could wish for. Bissell’s DirtLifter brushing system is a proven technology. It ensures that even smaller traces of dirt and stains are loosened and captured by the Bissell Proheat 2x Premier, so your carpet not only looks really clean – it actually gets really clean. This level of deep cleaning has garnered high satisfaction ratings from current users, many of whom are not shy to describe their results as professional in quality.
Quick Cleaning
The single 2-in-1 tank and larger 1.25 gallon size of the ProHeat 2x means you only make one trip to empty the dirty water from the tank, and to fill it with clean water and cleaning solution if needs be. Some people are fine with the 2-in-1 water tank design, but other people hate it. From Bissell’s perspective, they feel that it makes more sense to only fit a single tank on what is a consumer carpet cleaner.
Keeps Water Warm During Cleaning
We know we’ve mentioned this a few times already but we do think that the warm water supply features of the Bissell ProHeat 2X 47A23 carpet cleaner enables the carpet cleaning to be more effective. Users can start off by filling the machine with hot water up to 140°F or 60°C. The Heatwave feature will help to retain the heat in the water, instead of allowing it to cool off. Keeping the water warm through the cleaning process a difference it makes.
Compared To Other Bissell/Hoover Carpet Cleaners In Its Class
The Bissell Proheat 2x Premier Carpet Cleaner 47A23 is a superb carpet cleaning machine. For shoppers, it can get confusing selecting it as the model to purchase, as there seem to be other models that look and sound great as well. Here is how the Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23 fares when compared to other Bissell carpet cleaners or similar models:
Pros
Great 7 Amps Power – The Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23 is run on 7 amps of power. This makes this deep carpet cleaner’s motor more powerful than Bissell’s more basic ProHeat DeepClean Essential 8852, and pet deep cleaners 17N4 and 36Z9.
Heatwave Technology – This models incorporates the Heatwave feature, which keeps water warm throughout the carpet cleaning process. This is a win over Hoover’s upright carpet deep cleaners.
Larger Tank Size – The 1.25 gallon size allows for more cleaning to be done with each round of filling and emptying the tank. This is a win over the more basic Bissell Essential Deep Carpet Cleaner 8852 or Hoover SteamVac with Clean Surge.
3-year warranty – That’s an extra year of warranty and value over the Bissell Essential Deep Cleaner 8852 package.
Newer 2013/2014 Design – The Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23 is based on Bissell’s latest engineering and design to provide users with an advanced machine for an exceptional home carpet cleaning experience.
Cons
No Pet Hair basket – The Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23 does not have a Pet Hair basket feature that the Bissell Pet Carpet Cleaner 17N4 or 36Z9 has. For pet owners, especially if they have a lot of pets dropping hair, the Bissell 17N4 may make more sense.
No Actual Water Heater – Bissell has done away with an actual water heater in the Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23, and replaced it Heatwave technology that helps to maintain the hot water temperature. In contrast, the classic Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner 66Q4 or the newer Bissell ProHeat 2X 1383 has an actual built-in heater along with a powerful 12 amp motor – part of the ProHeat 2X 66Q4 machine’s main selling points.
No Rinse Mode – Unlike the Hoover MaxExtract Dual V Carpet Cleaner F7412-900, the Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23 does not have a rinse-only mode. Users who need to rinse their carpets would need to empty and fill the bladder bag with water only without carpet shampoo mixed in.
Things to Look Out For
Using Bissell Carpet Detergent
Bissell warns users to always, always use Bissell-branded cleaning solution in their carpet cleaners. According to their official explanation, not doing this could cause damage to the cleaning machine, and will void the 3-year warranty. Sure, many have used other brands of cleaning formulas, or even home-made carpet shampoos successfully. We do not recommend this route, unless the user has enough experience and understand the machine and does not mind the dangers and a lack of manufacturer guarantee.
For most users, it is just easier and more worry-free to go with Bissell’s proven solutions. They happen to work extremely well in Bissell’s machines.
No Flow Indicator
It’s nice to be able to get a visual on how much water and solution you have left, but newer Bissell regular-grade home carpet cleaning machines, including the Bissell Proheat 2x 47A23, are missing that particular feature. In older Bissell models, this feature was still available. However, going forward, Bissell’s engineers appear to have relegated this feature to larger professional/commercial grade carpet cleaners; probably as they can’t afford to run dry in the middle of cleaning vast areas of carpet.
Should You Buy The Bissell Proheat 2x Premier Carpet Cleaner 47A23?
The Bissell Proheat 2x Premier Carpet Cleaner 47A23 have consistently surpassed most user expectations. It is a highly rated carpet cleaner with great cleaning power and a large sized 1.25 gallon water tank. We recommend this machine for carpet cleaning in mid-sized to large households.
For smaller homes, we recommend the more basic and less expensive Bissell ProHeat DeepClean Essential 8852
For homes with pets, we recommend the Bissell DeepClean Premier Pet Carpet Cleaner 17N4, with includes pet carpet cleaning features.
