Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner 66Q4 Review

Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner 66Q4The Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner 66Q4 is a very highly rated and popular Bissell carpet cleaner, for many good reasons. For a start, it cleans very effectively and is easy to set-up and use. A key strength of this cleaner is the incorporation of a built-in water heater that many steam cleaners lack. In this review, we will go through the various features of this cleaner, and discuss the pros and cons of this machine.

Bissell ProHeat 2X Carpet Cleaner 66Q4 Features & Benefits

Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner front viewBuilt-In Water Heater – The built-in water heater maximizes the cleaning potential of the carpet cleaner since hot water is more effective in removing dirt than lukewarm or cold water. The heater will heat hot tap water users put in by up to 25 degrees Fahrenheit higher. Most steam carpet cleaners allow for hot water to be added, but the water may turn lukewarm by the time users reach the end of the room. A built-in water heater ensures that hot water can always be used for shampooing carpets.

Surround Suction & DirtLifter® Powerbrushes – The cleaning effectiveness that users rave about is mainly due to the powerful surround suction coupled with the 10 rows of DirtLifter Powerbrushes. The combination of these two features ensures deep and edge to edge cleaning on any area on the carpet. The power brushes dig deep into the carpet’s surface to remove the deepest of stains while the surround suction immediately sucks the removed stains to prevent it from spreading to other areas of the carpet.

CleanShot® Stain Busting Feature – Through Bissell ProHeat 2X’s Clean Shot feature, cleaning solution is sprayed in a concentrated stream onto the stain. This enhances the results when cleaning out tough stains and spots.

Good Sized Water Tank – The water tank is designed to be large enough (1 gallon of water) to reduce the amount of trips to refill the tank but not so large as to make this carpet cleaner too heavy. To save space, it is a dual 2-in-1 water tank situated at the bottom of the cleaner. It is a “bladder” style tank with clean water being filled into the bladder and then dirty flow out to collect around it within the tank. The clean and dirty water are kept separate.

Separate Detergent Compartment/ Custom Rinse Mode – Users can add detergent within a separate compartment. This allows for easy rinsing of carpets.

Custom Clean® – The Bissell ProHeat 2x carpet cleaner incorporates 4 different settings for different levels of cleaning – heavy traffic, normal clean, light clean, or water rinse. The settings will allow for the right level of detergent to be mixed with clean hot water for cleaning.

Microban antimicrobial product protection – This feature is used to prevent the growth of microbes and bacteria inside the product. This feature is actually very useful since the water inside the carpet cleaner is a potential breeding ground for bacteria.

Good Handtools Set – The carpet cleaner comes with a TurboBrush, Spraying Crevice Tool, Stain Tool, as well as Stair Tool. It’s not just for cleaning carpets, users enjoy the Proheat 2X’s cleaning power for cleaning the stairs, home and auto upholstery. There is also an option to add on a hard floor attachment for cleaning hard floor surfaces.

Long Power Cord – At 27 feet, the power cord is long. Users do not need to plug and unplug all the time when cleaning. Most Hoover models only have 20 feet of cord length.

1 Year Warranty – The Bissell ProHeat 2x 66Q4 carpet cleaner comes with 1 year of manufacturers warranty.

Superb Cleaning Results – Great Brushing Technology & Heated Water Cleaning

According to users, the Bissell ProHeat 2X carpet cleaner cleans carpets tremendously well. They have a lot of good things to say about it. The deep cleaning and DirtLifter technology that this carpet cleaner uses very effectively removes difficult conditions of pet stains, wine, dirt, soot, and horrible stains embedded into the carpet. Some users even compared it to the results they got from professional cleaning services and rated the Bissell ProHeat 2X as better. According to one user, her carpets was able to revert back to its original color with a softer texture as a result of using this machine.

Some users mentioned that the presence of a built-in water heater made a difference to their cleaning results, since their carpets can be cleaned by warmer water. The heater will heat hot tap water by up to 25 °F hotter, and water temperature will not go higher than 190 °F. If having a built-in heater is important to you, this is one of the few models that incorporates a built-in water heater. Other Bissell cleaners have HeatWave Technology that keeps the water warm, but not an actual built-in water heater.

Easy To Operate

Another benefit of this product is its usability. The Bissell ProHeat 66Q4 carpet cleaner is very easy to use can be compared to simply using a normal vacuum cleaner. The manual that comes with the product shows the different methods of cleaning the carpet using this product. It is a well-written manual.

Its 3-in-1 mode of action is also easy to understand. Users can spray, scrub, and suction the carpet. These modes can be triggered by simply pressing a button located on the handle of the carpet cleaner.

Fast Dry

Users say that their carpets dry quickly with this Bissell Proheat 2X cleaner machine. This carpet shampooer incorporates a hot air drying feature that pushes out hot air is a distributed manner to the carpet to hasten drying. This occurs during the cleaning process, so that the overall dry time is fast.

Things to Look Out For

One Tank “Bladder” System – As stated above, the Bissell Proheat 66Q4 carpet cleaner uses a “bladder” style tank with clean water being filled into the bladder compartment, and the dirty water will flow outside of it. Although the clean and dirty water remains separated, some users are put off by having the clean and dirty water physically so close. Some users also claim that the design makes it more difficult to dump the water and refill compared with a separated 2-tank system. If this bothers you, you should look into Hoover carpet cleaners instead, as they use a two-tank water system.

Compared To Alternative Cleaners – While the Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home carpet cleaner is a superb machine, it doesn’t hurt to compare it with other options to see if it’s the best choice. The Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine 86T3 has better workmanship, cleaning power and durability. However, it also costs about twice as much. Users who are looking for a complete top notch and worry-free carpet cleaning experience may want to consider this model.

Users who seeking a more basic level Bissell carpet cleaner machine may want to look at the Bissell 8852 ProHeat DeepClean Essential Carpet Cleaner. While it has lesser cleaning power, it is still adequately equipped to perform well for most carpet conditions. It is also priced quite a bit less than the ProHeat 2X Healthy Home.

If you are interested in a model with a built-in heater, the Bissell ProHeat 2X Advanced Carpet Cleaner 1383 is another alternative. This carpet steam cleaner is technologically similar to the Bissell Proheat 2X Healthy Home, and has 12 rows of DirtLifter brushes and 12 amps of motor power. However, it does not have the Clean Shot and custom cleaning mode (eg. heavy/ rinse modes) cleaning features. In terms of accessories, it comes packaged bare bones with a hose and a 3 inch stain hand tool, compared to the multiple tools that the Healthy Home 66Q4 comes packaged with. For some users, accessories are not as important. Check out the Bissell ProHeat 2X 1383 review.

Read the manual – The Bissell 66Q4 ProHeat user manual contains lots of tips on how to use the cleaner to maximum benefit. Although reading the manual can sound boring, this one is actually very reader friendly. It’s worth the read – you can avoid missing out of using Pro Heat 2x to its full benefit.

Use Bissell detergent – Bissell recommends using their own branded cleaning solutions with the cleaner. Otherwise, there may be a risk of harming the machine. It also voids the warranty on the machine. The package comes with a small bottle of Bissell detergent to get started on a small area. If you plan on doing any major cleaning, it may be wise to plan ahead and purchase a full bottle of Bissell detergent. The most popular Bissell detergent that users opt for, with great reviews, is the Bissell 2X Professional Deep Cleaning Formula

Should You Buy The Bissell ProHeat 2X Carpet Cleaner 66Q4?

It is a handy machine to have at home, to clean up spills and stains before they set in. Over time, it will save money by delaying the expense of getting new carpeting.

The built in heater is a GIMMICK.. It actually breaks the unit with time.. Unless you use distilled water or are incredibly incredibly careful water build up will eventually clog the Line and its cheaper to buy a new one than fix.. I highly recommend this model but don’t EVER use the heater… I’ve clogged / had 3 break on me all with clogged lines at the heater.

      Hi Jesse,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear about the clogging.

Bissell is probably aware of the issue, as most of their new models do not include a built-in water heater. Even their high end professional model does not incorporate a built-in cleaner. If anyone is interested, the Bissell ProHeat 2X 47A23 would be a good one to compare the 66Q4 with.

      All the best,

      Cassandra

      Hi Jeff,

Sorry to hear about the mishap. Some people have reported problems with their Bissells after a while as well. Of course, there are others who say that their Bissell regular upright cleaners have lasted them 8 to 10 years. Hoover upright cleaners may be an alternative, but regular-grade home upright cleaners do sometimes fail (see the Hoover vs Bissell article, where longevity of machines was discussed).

The professional grade ones are built a lot better, but they do cost more. If anyone is ever interested, check out this Professional Vs. Regular Upright cleaners comparison.
