Bissell Upright Carpet Cleaners
What they are: Upright home carpet carpet cleaners are full-powered machines for cleaning the whole house, large or small areas. They typically come with hose and brush tool attachments to clean furniture, car interiors, spots and other hard-to-reach places.
Recommended for: As a main all-purpose carpet cleaning machine, from periodic deep cleaning and maintenance to spot cleaning, furniture cleaning and even auto interiors. Amongst various types of carpet cleaners, upright cleaners can reduce or replace the need for rental machines or professional cleaning services. In fact, many users feel that their cleaning results are on par with what they have experienced with rental machines or professional services.
Pet models: For pet owners, Bissell has several pet specific models (like the Pet Carpet Cleaners 17N4 and 36Z9 described below). The main difference between the the Bissell 17N4 and 36Z9 and other Bissell upright carpet shampooers is the presence of a Pet Hair collector basket. If you have really hairy friends who shed a lot, this feature will help to collect pet hair before they clog up or affect the dirty water tank or nozzle area.
The best-selling Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution has both pet and non-pet versions. The pet model is not different from the non-pet version – the pet package just comes with an extra pet stain tool attachment that can also be purchased separately.
Of note is that this model does not have a separate pet hair collector basket feature like the Bissell 17n4. Nevertheless, the Proheat 2x Revolution machine design does facilitate the handling of pet hair, and many dog and cat owners are happy with its results. It is highly recommended that users vacuum their carpets to collect pet hair before they start deep cleaning their carpets with a carpet shampooer. More guidance on Pet Carpet Cleaning Machines.

Bissell Lift-Off Upright/Spot Combination Deep Cleaning Systems
If you are torn between getting an upright cleaner and a portable spot cleaner, Bissell’s lift-off combination cleaners may offer you the flexibility that you need. These are combination machines that function both as upright carpet cleaners for easily cleaning rooms and large areas, and smaller portable cleaners that can be moved around to clean spots, upholstery and auto-interiors. Although they are hybrid machines, they serve both functions well and routinely receive high customer satisfaction ratings. Users appreciate the versatility of their machine, added convenience and savings in storage space.
Some reviewers felt that having two separate dedicated upright and spot machines would provide a better overall experience. Bissell Lift Off systems are purchased frequently but they are not as popular as Bissell’s upright or spot cleaners. Bissell Canister Carpet Cleaner
The least popular type of Bissell carpet cleaner is Bissell’s canister carpet cleaner. There is only one model in this category – the Big Green Complete Deep Cleaner/Vacuum 7700. Although less popular, it cleans carpets well and have many unique advantages in comparison with other cleaners. The Big Green Complete 7700 not only deep cleans carpets, but it can also be used as a vacuum cleaner and hard floor cleaner. On top of that, it comes with a built-in heater to heat the water for deep carpet cleaning. Canister style carpet cleaners are difficult to find.
Bissell has the only consumer-grade canister model deep carpet cleaner we know of. For some users, this style of cleaning works best for them as they do not need to push and pull the full weight of the machine, like in upright carpet shampooer models. According to many users, it also does a really good job with carpet cleaning, removing tough spots and stains, including pet urine and other messes.
The main downsides are that it is a more complex machine and takes more effort to assemble and to learn to use it. The vacuum cleaner will suction dust into the wet chamber, so as a vacuum cleaner, it may require more maintenance work to operate than expected (eg. such as rinsing the water tank and hose after each use). As a combination carpet deep cleaner, hard floor and vacuum cleaner, it costs more than purchasing an upright carpet cleaner on its own.
