This Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution is lightweight and cleans extremely well. It is also well-designed, incorporating features like a dual water tank system, dual cleaning modes and Heatwave technology. If you are looking for a great all-in-one carpet cleaner that cleans entire rooms, homes, area rugs, furniture or stairs, it’s hard to go wrong with this choice.
Model Variations/ Pet, Non-Pet Models: The Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution comes with various model labels like 1548, 15489, or 1551. Some models have a “pet” label as the package comes with an extra pet stain tool-head. This tool-head attachment can be purchased separately if it is not in the package you bought.
Despite the model name variations, these are basically the same ProHeat 2X Revolution cleaner machine with slight cosmetic differences. For example, at Target, it’s blue and at Walmart, it’s black/ yellow.
Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Features & Benefits
Two Cleaning Modes – The Express Clean mode is a lighter clean with quicker dry times. For a thorough deep clean, the Deep Clean mode will give a deeper clean, renewing badly soiled carpet and cleaning out bad pet stains and embedded dirt. The dual cleaning modes makes it easier for users to get their carpets clean and groomed whenever they like. Express Clean takes away the need to stay away from home carpets for a long time while waiting for it to dry up.
DirtLifter® Powerbrushes – The Bissell ProHeat Revolution 2X 1548 machine employs Bissell’s proven DirtLifter brushing technology. There are 12 rows of brushes spread over dual rotating rollers. This is better than Bissell’s basic 8852 Deep Clean Essential model with 6 brush rows, and compares well with Bissell’s popular mid-level models like the Bissell Premier Pet 17N4 or Deluxe Pet 36Z9.
Two-Tank Water System – The separate clean and dirty water tanks feature in this model makes it easy to fill clean water and to dump out the dirty water collected. The clean water tank size is 1 gallon.
Heatwave Technology – Heatwave technology helps to maintain water temperature, to keep the water warm as cleaning progresses. For a better clean, users can fill the clean water tank with warm water up to 140°F/60°C max. Heatwave technology then helps to maintain the water temperature by channeling the heat generated from the machine’s operations.
Hose & Tool Attachments – The machine package comes with a 7-foot hose and 3 inch stain tool. Some ProHeat 2X Revolution packages (like the Bissell Proheat 2X Revolution 1548) also include a Pet Stain Tool. The tools make it possible to clean furniture and stairs, or to tackle tougher pet stains and spots.
Good Motor Power – Power amperage is 6.8 amps. This is equivalent or slightly higher other best-selling upright Bissell cleaner models.
Lightweight – At just under 18 lbs, this is one of the lightest upright carpet cleaners on the market. Bissell’s typical upright carpet cleaner models with similar cleaning power are traditionally bulkier and heavier, weighing 24 lbs or more. The lightweight makes it easy to take the machine out of the closet, and to maneuver the machine around when cleaning or to bring it up/down the stairs.
Low Profile Foot – With a low profile foot, it is easier to clean under and around furniture. This is a thoughtful design feature for the “Express Clean” times when users just want to get the cleaning done quickly without having to first move furniture out of the way.

3-Year Limited Warranty – The Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution comes with a 3-year limited manufacturer’s warranty. According to the manual, users need to use Bissell branded cleaning detergent with the machine or the warranty will be voided. This is a standard clause for almost all deep carpet cleaners, as manufacturers do not want to be liable if an unvetted detergent formula harms the machine.
Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Overall Review
Exceptional Cleaning Results
The Bissell ProHeat Revolution 2X 1551/ 1548/ 1548T has been described by an overwhelming majority of users as providing exceptional cleaning results. The best cleaning results were achieved through the Deep Clean Mode rather than the Express Clean Mode, and with pretreating and soaking the worst stains in running them over with deep cleaner.
Many pet owners were surprised by the amount of old stains and pet hair that the machine lifted out, despite vacuuming before cleaning with the machine. One satisfied user lived on a ranch with several dogs that tracked dirt in and out during the day. This ProHeat Revolution 2X 1551/1548/15489 cleaner cleaned her dirty carpets convincingly, and was even able to remove old stains that had accumulated. This was despite her having cleaned her carpets other carpet cleaning machines in the past, both Bissell and other brands.
Another user mentioned that he has used 4 other machine models in the past 15 years, and this was the best to date. Like other satisfied users mentioned, this machine was able to pick up old stains and pet hair that other machines must have missed. Yet another user, a dog owner, mentioned that he was pleased that he was able to use the attachment tool to clean out a vomit stain from the couch. Many dog and cat owners have also chimed in to support the superior cleaning results that this machine provided.

Better Than The Leading Rental Cleaner?
With the Bissell ProHeat Revolution 2X, Bissell claims that it cleans better than the leading rental cleaner. This is the first time ever that a company has been willing to making such a bold statement for a consumer-grade model. The fact that Bissell has not made a similar claim for their other machines and the overwhelming positive customer feedback for this model does provide extra confidence to shoppers.
A number of users did think that their Bissell ProHeat Revolution 2X 1548/ 1551 machine cleaned better than a rental cleaner. One Amazon user, DocStew, is a veterinarian and dog owner who has owned a commercial-grade Rug Doctor before. He felt that the Bissell ProHeat Revolution 2X cleaned better than his Rug Doctor (see review here). Another user Tawny42 with 4 dogs found that the Bissell 1548 picked up a lot of dirt from her carpets even though she had rented a Rug Doctor to clean her carpets the week before.
Suction/ Dry Time
Suction for the machine can be described as adequate. Most users were satisfied that their Bissell Proheat 2X (1551/1548/1548T) cleaner suctioned a lot of dirty water and pet hair out, but a few did find the machine did not pull out nearly as much water as it has left on the carpets. Superior suction is important because it pulls out the dirty stuff from the carpets rather than leave it to dry on the carpet threads. It also helps to get the carpets to dry faster.
For the Deep Clean Mode, the carpets can take a few hours to even a day to dry up, depending on the type of carpeting. For the Express Clean Mode, Bissell says that it takes about an hour to dry up, and a number of users have found that to be true in their experience.
Bissell branded formula is recommended for use with this machine.
Modern Design/ A Machine You Want To Use Often
This upright deep cleaner machine has been designed with the end user in mind, making the task of using a carpet cleaner easier and getting great results very easy. The design itself is stylish and modern looking. For Bissell, this can be described as a revolutionary breakthrough machine for the following features:
1) A two-tank clean and dirty water tank system. Both tanks have convenient handles and easy-fill guidance that make them a breeze to use compared to Bissell’s traditional one-tank “bladder bag” system.
2) It’s lightweight weighing approximately 17 1/2 pounds (without water). This is a tad lighter than the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe FH50150, compares favorably with Bissell’s typical upright cleaner (24 lbs plus). A lighter machine is not only easier to maneuver, it makes the whole experience of bringing out the machine from the closet easier. Most people do not enjoy taking out huge and heavy appliances, but feel they “have to” when it comes time. This clears another obstacle towards enjoying clean carpets.
3) The option of an Express Clean mode allows even greater flexibility in using the machine. Carpet cleaning does not have to be a day-long affair. For regular maintenance or to keep the carpets refreshed, the Express Mode offers a lighter clean and faster dry. The low profile makes it easier to clean around furniture, so for a quick clean, it saves the need to move furniture away.
For more in-depth periodic cleanings, the deep clean mode ensures that deep stains and embedded dirt gets removed.
