Baking Soda Absorbs Carpet Stains And Reduces Odors

December 3, 2014 By Emmeline Chu Leave a Comment

baking-soda-arm-hammerBaking soda can be utilized carpet stain and odor removal, amongst its wide variety of uses. It can effectively clean the carpet and keep it free from unpleasant odors if you know what to do with it. Baking soda is known for being a good odor neutralizer and cleaning agent. These are the two qualities why baking soda is the best choice for dealing with a filthy carpet.

If you want to use baking soda to clean your carpet at home, here are some common ways to do that. We recommend that you test these methods out first in hidden areas of the carpet first.

To Get Rid of Carpet Stains:

Folex Carpet Spot Remover

Using baking soda to remove stains on your carpet is easy. You only need to combine it with a small amount of water until you are able to make a paste. The mixture should produce a paste that has some thick consistency.

Once you have the paste ready for use, apply it onto the stained area of the carpet. You should let it set for 20 to 30 minutes. If you are not in a hurry, you can leave it longer for more stain lifting action to occur. The paste should become dry and hard over time.

You can actually see the dirt and stain being pulled out the carpet and blended into the baking soda mix. Instead of the white paste that you originally placed over the stain, you should see a “stained” and hardened baking soda mix. Some people even note that they can hear a bubbling sound from the action of the baking soda mix.

You should gently chip the hardened paste before removing it from the carpet. The stain should become lighter or gone after your first try. Continue removing the chipped, hardened paste from the carpet, sweeping them off first manually, then vacuuming the finer bits that cannot be swept up.

To Get Rid of Unpleasant Carpet Odor:

Using baking soda can easily eliminate bad odors on your carpet as well. Just sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda on the areas of the carpet where the unpleasant odor is coming from. You can sprinkle it on the entire carpet if you cannot determine where the smell is coming from. Leave the baking soda overnight and use a vacuum cleaner to remove it on the following day.

The baking soda will make your carpet smell clean and fresh once more by absorbing the bad odor.

When you are about to clean your carpet at home, keep baking soda as your carpet cleaning product because it can be a great companion to have. Grab some baking soda first and then see how effective it can be before you schedule your next carpet maintenance.

Baking soda is also great for numerous other household applications beyond cleaning carpets. Check them out in this post.

Machine Cleaning Saves Time/Sweat

Baking soda is great for cleaning up spots and small patches of carpet stains. For cleaning up larger areas, it takes quite a bit of the time and effort. To lessen the manual work, consider getting a carpet cleaner machine. There are upright models for room cleaning, and small compact models for spot/stain cleaning. Use only the recommended carpet cleaning solutions, and not baking soda, to avoid any incompatibility with the machine.
